Nelson complexity index ranking

The Nelson Index Refinery Nelson Complexity = Sum of (Unit capacity/ CDU capacity x Nelson Factor) for all units on refinery. A refinery's level of complexity is often based on how much secondary conversion capacity it has. The Nelson Complexity Index is one measure of refinery complexity. This index was developed in the 1960s by W.L. Nelson. The Worldwide Refinery Survey and Complexity Analysis combines the most current Worldwide Refinery Survey with the Nelson Refinery Complexity Index. The Nelson Refinery Complexity Index is a cost-based index. The index provides insight into such things as refinery construction costs, replacement value, conversion capability and product slate. The index measures the complexity and cost of each major type of refinery equipment. In forming the index, the distillation column is given a value of 1 and the other units are assigned a value based on conversion and cost relative to the distillation column. The larger the Nelson index of a refinery, the more complex it is.
